Why You Should Run the 2024 Montgomery Half Marathon or Enlisted Heritage 5K

One of the premiere running events of the year across River Region is approaching quickly, the 2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama Montgomery Half Marathon presented by Montgomery Multisport and Enlisted Heritage 5K on Saturday, March 9th!

It’s the annual event attracting a massive amount of runners near and far to the hit the streets passing a variety of historic sights around Alabama’s Capital City! It is the exclusive half marathon race in Montgomery, which also offers a 5K option.

Hey, it’s Greg Thomas, heard afternoons on Montgomery’s #1 for New Country, I-92 WLWI! Both the half marathon and 5K courses give runners an opportunity to soak in historic sites around the city. This includes the Alleyway Water Tank, Alabama State Capitol, Court Square Fountain, Hank Williams Sr. Statue, along with a finish on the baseball field inside Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits! The half marathon will also have you passing through Oak Park dating back to 1899, the campus edge of both Alabama State University and Huntingdon College, the governor’s mansion, along with historic neighborhoods.

Let me directly comment on this article’s headline, “Why You Should Run the 2024 Montgomery Half Marathon or Enlisted Heritage 5K,” why? If you’re not a regular runner who is a regular at area races, it’s easy to say that’s not for me. But, what if it is? Just think, people talk about benefits of exercise both physically and mentally. Yes, cardio exercise like running helps to burn fat and make you feel better. Now, I get it, you may be thinking, Greg, I just don’t like to run. I get it, things like the impact on joints from running or other physical limitations which make it not possible for some. For others, it’s just a choice to say no. What if you said, yes. What if you tried run a little, walk a little, run a little to start. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air. That can be done, right? Like with other new things, start small and build up. Set small goals. You will be thrilled with yourself when you hit them. Keep growing those goals. Hold yourself to those goals. You don’t feel like doing it, just do it. You don’t have time. Find time. You will look back and be so proud of yourself. You see, most runners that will be participating in a race like the Montgomery Half Marathon or 5K aren’t looking to win the race, rather to win their personal goals. There’s the reward and there is where something called the runner’s high exists. The feeling of accomplishment! Something to consider. Half marathon too much right now, go with the 5K. Could handle the half but not signed up, registration is open.
